The UGA Office of Undergraduate Admissions oversees the application process required for the university. A student must be accepted to UGA before entering a College of Education program.

Part 2: Program Admissions Requirements

Admission Policies

The middle grades education major is designated as a high-demand major at the University of Georgia. The University identifies high-demand majors as those that receive or expect to receive more applications for major status from fully qualified rising juniors than the program can accommodate without endangering the quality of instruction offered. The middle grades education program admits no more than 60 students per application round.

Eligibility Requirements

  • No more than 9 hours of core coursework remaining (in-progress courses do not count toward * the 9 hours)
  • 2.8 GPA (overall and cumulative)
  • Completion of (or current enrollment in) EDUC 2110, EDUC 2120, or EPSY 2130
  • Passing scores on or exemption from the GACE Program Admission Assessment
  • Qualifying exemption scores:
    • SAT (Critical Reading and Math scores combined > 1000)
    • ACT (English and Math scores combined > 43)
    • GRE (Verbal and Quantitative scores combined > 1030 or 297)

  • Statement of Purpose
    Examine the Middle Grades Education Program's commitments and respond to the three application questions. Each response should be 350-500 words. You will be required to attach your responses to these questions in the electronic Middle Grades Education Program Application.

  • Complete Areas I-VI of the core curriculum
  • Maintain a 2.8 GPA (overall and cumulative)
