Combine your interest in the field of mathematics with your passion for educating others through our dual degree program. The UGA College of Education and the Franklin College Department of Mathematics join their requirements for a BSEd in Mathematics Education and a BS in Mathematics. This pairing offers you new ways to explore the field and gives you greater flexibility in your career.
The dual degree's courses are taught by award-winning faculty current in their disciplines through their research and work in schools. As a participant, you will have the opportunity to student teach in middle and high school classrooms, and an experienced mentor and supervisor will support your fieldwork.
Upon graduation, you will be eligible for initial teacher certification in Georgia to teach mathematics in grades 6-12.
Please use our online form if you have any questions for the department. Please be as specific as possible so that we may quickly assist you.
All undergraduate students at UGA meet with an academic advisor each semester. This meeting is critical to a student's success as a chance to discuss courses and electives, certification criteria, and general graduation requirements.
Almost all in-state students begin their studies at UGA paying limited tuition or fees. Please note that these amounts are subject to change and are meant to give prospective students an idea of the costs associated with a degree at the University of Georgia College of Education.
Students may qualify for a variety of assistantships, scholarships, and other financial awards to help offset the cost of tuition, housing, and other expenses.
You will also take part in a cohort group with other students during the dual degree program. This will help you develop strong academic and personal relationships that can carry over into your fieldwork and career.
As part of the program, you will have the opportunity to apply for scholarships and to compete for the Department of Mathematics' Kossack Prize in calculus. We also offer an annual mathematics major fair to help you socialize with math faculty and current majors in an informal setting.
The Mathematics Education Student Association provides future teachers with access to professional resources through its book sale, regular colloquia, service projects, and social activities.
Participate in a variety of research opportunities through the Vertical Integration of Research and Education and the National Science Foundation.
