Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Minor

Are you interested in teaching English to speakers of other languages? The minor in TESOL helps prepare you to work with English learners in a variety of contexts, including adult community and basic education programs, college level learners in the U.S. and abroad, and P-12 students.

Housed in the TESOL and World Language Education program, the minor provides you with the latest research and theory on language learning and teaching as well as opportunities for practical hands-on teaching practice. You will learn about the complexity of issues related to language acquisition and development, communication among people from diverse backgrounds, language and education policies nationally and internationally, instruction of language minority students, and the relationship between language pedagogy and social justice.

Choose from an array of program offerings and electives to accommodate your needs and interests. You may also take advantage of a variety of field experience and service-learning opportunities in the United States and abroad.

Our world-renowned and diverse faculty publish in the top peer-reviewed journals in the field of second-language research. Our curriculum in TESOL and World Language Education will expose you to a variety of theoretical orientations, research methodologies, and pedagogical approaches.
