Coaching Endorsement and Certificate (Griffin Campus)

As an endorsement, this program is recognized by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC). As of Fall 2024, it is also a UGA certificate program. Therefore, completion of the program will be noted on the GaPSC certificate and on the UGA transcript.

An individual with the Coaching Endorsement has strengthened and enhanced competency levels to use performance assessment data to provide specific feedback to individuals that will assist them in meeting criteria for performance in various educational positions.

The Coaching Endorsement will strengthen and enhance your ability to use performance assessment data to provide individuals with specific feedback.

You will assist them in meeting criteria for performance in various educational positions such as, but not limited to:

  • A supervisor/coach of individuals completing student teaching requirements or a non-traditional teacher preparation program
  • A mentor/coach of interns/beginning teachers
  • An instructional/academic coach of classroom teachers
  • A classroom teacher providing professional learning for peers
  • A coach of candidates seeking educational leadership positions

Curriculum

The coaching endorsement is offered only in conjunction with the M.Ed. or Ed.S. in mathematics education on the Griffin campus. It is not available as stand-alone, add-on course work.

Endorsement topics include:

  • Mentoring in mathematics education
  • Coaching internship

For the mentoring in mathematics education course, you will read research regarding coaching in mathematics and prepare your plans for a coaching internship.

Our nationally recognized faculty will work with you to customize your degree program.

How to Apply

  1. All applicants must complete a UGA Graduate School application.
  2. Current UGA Graduate Students will be charged a $25 application fee. Make sure to answer “Yes” to the question “Are you a current student?”.
  3. Non-UGA students will be charged a $75 application fee.
  4. Select your campus from the drop-down menu.
  5. Select “Endorsement/Certificate” from the Degree Level drop-down menu.
  6. Then select the endorsement/certificate program from the Intended Program drop-down menu. (Coaching Mathematics: CERT_2CMA_GR)

Applying for Graduation

All endorsement/certificate candidates must apply for graduation using the graduation application available in Athena upon completion of the last endorsement class by a given deadline for the semester in which they intend to graduate.

Deadline to Apply to Graduate

  • If you are graduating in Fall semester, apply to graduate by October 15.
  • If you are graduating in Spring semester, apply to graduate by March 15.
  • If you are graduating in Summer semester, apply to graduate by June 15.

The UGA Griffin Campus is located 40 miles south of Atlanta in Griffin and hosts several of the university’s programs.
