Elementary Agriculture Education Endorsement and Certificate
As an endorsement, this program is recognized by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC). As of Fall 2024, it is also a UGA minor program. Therefore, completion of the program will be noted on the GaPSC certificate and on the UGA transcript.
Completing the Elementary Agriculture Education (P-5) Endorsement will make you eligible to add this certification to your teaching certificate, provided you currently hold certification in agriculture education. If you are currently certified in elementary education, you may complete this endorsement after passing the Agriculture Education GACE exam. Check with your advisor if you are enrolled in an elementary education degree program or an agriculture education degree program and wish to add this endorsement to your certification upon completion of your program.
To qualify for admittance into the Elementary Agriculture Education (P-5) Endorsement program, you must:
- Apply for the minor in Athena
- Successfully complete a series of courses

- Add an Elementary Agriculture Education (P-5) Endorsement to your Georgia teaching certificate
- Complete the course series on its own or as part of an agriculture education or elementary education degree
- Get hands-on experience in agriculture
Curriculum
Please consult your advisor on the order in which to complete your curriculum.
- Complete coursework:
- Six credit hours of approved agriculture courses from CAES (see advisor)
- Complete coursework:
- Elementary Science Methods for Agricultural Education (ESCI 4200)
- Child Development and Teaching in the Sciences (EPSY 3200)
- Methods of Elementary Agriscience (AGED/EDUC 4361/6361)
Courses in the Elementary Agriculture Education (P-5) Endorsement focus on teaching methodologies, development, and instruction in supporting elementary learners, content-area literacies, and environmental literacies. All endorsement courses are now offered on the Athens campus.

How to Apply
Undergraduate students must apply for the certificate in Athena .
- Log into Athena
- Under the Student Tab, click “My Programs”
- Click the Add Minor button
- Select the “Elementary Agricultural Education” Minor from the drop-down menu.
Deadline to Apply
- Fall Semester: July 1
- Summer Semester: April 1
- Spring Semester: November 15
Applying for Graduation
All endorsement/certificate candidates must apply for graduation using the graduation application available in Athena upon completion of the last endorsement class by a given deadline for the semester in which they intend to graduate.
Deadline to Apply to Graduate
- If you are graduating in Fall semester, apply to graduate by October 15.
- If you are graduating in Spring semester, apply to graduate by March 15.
- If you are graduating in Summer semester, apply to graduate by June 15.
