Programs of Study


Dell Giles received her doctorate from the University of Georgia in Language & Language Education. The focus of her dissertation work was an autoethnographic study of the process of bringing dual language education to Georgia.

Before relocating to Texas with her family, Dr. Giles was a Dual Language Program Coordinator for 8 years, founding and opening the first public dual language school in Georgia. Before that, she worked worked as an ESOL/Sheltered Instruction, Spanish and EFL teacher for 12 years.

Dr. Giles has been teaching courses for teachers working toward their ESOL Endorsements since 2001 and has been instructing courses at The University of Georgia since 2005. Courses she has taught include Bilingualism and Bilingual Education, Language and Culture in the Classroom, and Research Methods in Language Education.

Today, Dr. Giles teaches primarily online for UGA and has been successful in developing online and hybrid learning opportunities. She also contracts with universities in Texas to supervise student teachers and interns. Dr. Giles speaks Spanish fluently and has extensive experience working with English Learners and their families.
