Kristen has worked in newspapers in New England, New York, California, Florida and Georgia as a reporter, editor, copy editor and page designer. In these capacities, she has also directed photo shoots, created illustrations and maps for stories and redesigned weekly and daily newspapers. As a result, she has seen most every aspect of the editorial side of newspapers, including story assigning, news gathering, taking photos, editing and page layout. She has even delivered plates to pressmen waiting to start the presses.
Before coming to the College of Education, Kristen was owner of Paper Forest, an Athens, Ga.,-based graphic design and publication consulting company that worked with local and regional newspapers to produce high-quality publications on both newsprint and glossy paper. She also edited and wrote content for magazine clients. Past and current projects include magazines, books, CD/DVD covers logos/business cards, and weekly newspaper sections. She also worked with publications to streamline their InDesign templates and create a more efficient production workflow, and redesign products to increase visibility in the community. She continues to write a regular column in the weekly news magazine Flagpole called Kiddie Dope.
