Biography

Prior to her current position, Paige spent 10 years at Mercer University, serving in a variety of roles in the Tift College of Education, including two years as interim dean. Tompkins began her career as a computer systems analyst with General Motors in Detroit, before figuring out that her real passion was in the field of education. She spent several years teaching high school math in Georgia and Alabama, before earning her Ph.D. After a post-doctoral fellowship at the Social Science Research Center at Mississippi State University, she spent several years as a full-time research scientist, focusing mainly on GIS technologies for data visualization, working on projects for a variety of agencies, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, NASA, USDA, and the US Department of Defense. Tompkins then moved into professorial roles in educator preparation, teaching quantitative research methods and directing doctoral programs in educational leadership.

Paige serves on a variety of education-related task forces in Georgia. She has been a state EPP program reviewer in Georgia for almost 10 years, and was recently trained as a CAEP national site visit reviewer.
