Research Summary

My research area is the measurement and enhanced understanding of the structure and predictive validity of temperamental and personality characteristics of children and adolescents. In recent years I have strong pursued a person-centered approach to this research, and have investigated a ten-cluster typology of normal behavior.

Biography

I was born in Boston, Mass., as my parents were serving in the Military during WWII. I grew up primarily in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Attended the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester (New York) for one year before transfering to the University of New Mexico where I received my undergraduate degree (Psychology) and masters degree (Counseling). I then attended the University of Texas in Austin and attained by Ph.D. in Educational Psychology in 1970. My first teaching position was at Temple University in Philadelphia, where I served from 1970 through 1979. I then was offered a position at the University of Georgia, and have been at UGA since that time.
