The Office of School Engagement serves as a bridge between the worlds of theory and practice in public education to improve the educational experiences of students and the professional lives of educators.

What We Do

The primary direction for the Office of School Engagement in 2020-21 will be to support conversations this fall around the Reconceptualizing Teacher Education work groups reports in concert with the report issued from the OSE Task Force. We will share the reports from the Reconceptualizing Teacher Education work groups with our Clarke County School District partners as those concentration areas are the same areas in which CCSD is interested.

The 4 priority areas established by the UGA-CCSD Executive Committee include:

  1. integrating diversity, equity and inclusion across university learning and P-12 student experiences
  2. looking for approaches to weave social and emotional learning in both learning environments
  3. thinking through ways to strengthen the teacher, leader, counselor, and psychologist pipelines
  4. exploring spaces where both parties might support the induction of new members of the P-12 community

During 2020-21, the Office of School Engagement will also begin to develop and strengthen partnerships with other school districts in the Northeast Georgia region.

Professional Development School District

Professional Development School District

We have a Professional Development School District partnership with Clarke County School District that includes 20 on-site courses, eight professors-in-residence, and more than 500 UGA students in the schools.

Experience UGA

Experience UGA

We support Experience UGA, a field trip initiative to bring all Clarke County students (P-12) to UGA's campus each year. Kindergarten students take a walking tour of campus led by Elementary Education majors and discuss shapes they see in buildings and surroundings.

This bi-annual newsletter explores the unique partnerships between the College and surrounding school districts.
