A 'Lunar New Year' Family Art Day (and Public Kickoff)

Join us in this free, family-oriented event aimed at exploring and creating art forms inspired by this year's NEA Big Read book, "To Live," by Chinese author Yu Hua.

Sage Kincaid, assistant curator of education at the Georgian Museum of Art, will lead Asian-inspired art activities such as lantern-making and calligraphy. Storytime discussions will take place based on the inspiring, award-winning work of Hua and Asian-American young adult and children's author Grace Lin. Melisa Cahnmann-Taylor, professor in the UGA College of Education and organizer of the Big Read events, along with UGA students, will play Mandarin language games every 30 minutes; players take home a copy of Lin's book, "Year of the Dog."

Free copies of NEA Big Read books will be given away by lottery at the event.
