Anneliese Singh, an associate professor in the Department of Counseling and Human Development Services, was quoted in the cover story in the latest issue of Counseling Today. The story, "Embracing the ongoing push for progress," details the positive changes members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community have experienced — as well as some hurdles still to overcome.

Singh was quoted on the health disparities that put LGBT people of color at a higher risk for physical and mental health problems. Some of her research has found that transgender people who learn to identify with their race along with their gender identity build a support network in both communities. This creates a multifaceted approach to identity that affects how counselors understand their clients.
