TEAMS event promotes mathematics and sciences
Middle and high school students from across Georgia recently gathered for a day of critical thinking, teamwork and problem solving during the annual TEAMS challenge.
TEAMS stands for Tests of Engineering, Aptitude, Mathematics and Science, and the program is a way to bring math and science to life for kids. This year's theme was "The Power of Engineering," and it took place during engineers' week. Students take part in sessions that may include multiple-choice questions and/or open-ended questions, depending on their grade level.
The event is sponsored by Northrop Grumman, the career and information studies department at the University of Georgia College of Education, the UGA College of Engineering and the UGA office of STEM. Winners were announced at the end of the competition, but the results of round two will be announced in April.
High school winners were:
- Parkview High School (first place)
- Mountain View high School (second place)
- Stone Mountain High School (11/12 grade team; third place)
Middle school winners were:
- Radloff Middle School (team 2; first place)
- Loganville Christian Academy (second place)
- Radloff Middle School (team 1; third place).
Note: Duluth Adventist Christian School was unable to make the rescheduled date because they were on spring break; plans are being made for them to take their test on-site.
