Dr. Phil Sparling (MEd '76, EdD '79), professor emeritus at Georgia Institute of Technology, with give the inaugural Department of Kinesiology Distinguished Alumni Lecture on Oct. 16.

This Distinguished Alumni Lecture has been established in conjunction with the University of Georgia College of Education to honor an alumnus with an exceptionally distinguished career of outstanding scientific and scholarly contributions to kinesiology. The lecture will be the centerpiece of a Kinesiology Research Day celebrated during UGA Homecoming Weekend, which includes a departmental open house showcasing undergraduate and graduate student research as well as tours and demonstrations in the laboratories.

This year is also the 10-year anniversary of the department; it was in 2005 when exercise science combined with physical education and sport studies to create the new Department of Kinesiology. This event will commemorate the anniversary.
