Partnership helps local students and trains teachers too

A recent front-page story in the Athens Banner-Herald featured the unique nature of the Professional Development School District, a partnership between the Clarke County School District and the UGA College of Education.

"Begun in 2009 as a pilot program at J.J. Harris Elementary, the collaboration has grown to include 12 of the school district's 21 schools, including five elementary schools and all of the school district's middle and high schools, according to Dresden, who is director of the education college's Office of School Engagement. Administrators and teachers in both the College of Education and Clarke schools say it's a good thing, for both the Clarke students and the UGA students," writes reporter Lee Shearer.
