Marcotte elected a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association

Anne Marcotte, a professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Special Education and the interim department head of the language and literacy education department, was recently elected a Fellow of the American Speech- Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

The fellowship is one of the highest forms of recognition given by ASHA for an outstanding professional's achievements and contributions to the discipline of communication sciences and disorders.

Any nominee for an ASHA Fellowship must demonstrate "outstanding contributions to their profession within and beyond one's community or state" in three specific areas, with an emphasis on quantity and quality of the nominee's achievements.

Marcotte was recognized for her contributions in the areas of clinical and academic instruction, research and administrative services.

ASHA is a national professional, scientific and credentialing association comprised of audiologists; speech-language pathologists; speech, language and hearing scientists; and students. The association's mission is to support members and affiliates by fostering excellence in professional practice and advocating for the people they serve.

Marcotte's research is largely focused on speech-language pathology, evidence- based practice, academic administration and stuttering, as well as questions about defining, measuring and treating the speech disorder in children and adults. Most recently, her efforts have been in academic leadership, management and administration.
