Tech-savvy training can improve state-mandated test scores

A classroom full of Atlanta city, Fulton and DeKalb county high school economics teachers spent one week as students at Georgia State University in June. They were learning how to use technology to improve student engagement in teaching macroeconomics.

The knowledge they will take back and share with their schools – and with others who teach economics in their school systems – has the potential to improve scores on the state-mandated End of Course Test (EOCT) for high school students in high-need schools.

This year's workshop, titled "Integrating Technology into Macroeconomics Instruction," was primarily funded by the Improving Teacher Quality State Grants Program, Elementary and Secondary Education Act, Title II, Part A. It is the third in a series of five workshops Georgia State University faculty members Shelby Frost and Joseph Feinberg are working to bring to campus.
