Give yourself the gift of exercise

While you may not unwrap a My Little Pony play set or a radio-controlled car this year, don't worry — the best gift may be one that costs absolutely nothing and makes you feel better than anything bought in a store.

That's because regular doses of physical activity can help you feel less stress and combat the by-products of stress that affect your brain and body, says Colleg eof Education kinesiology professor Brian McCullick.

McCullick's advice is featured in a Nov. 20 story in the Athens Banner-Herald.

His advice? Schedule time to move around every day this holiday season. Walk around your neighborhood to look at the lights. Jog in place while watching your favorite holiday movie. Or watch an online yoga class and work out in your pajamas. As an added bonus, studies have shown that exercise can help boost your immunity, which could mean a healthier start to the new year.
