Tom Poland (MEd '75) has spent the better part of his life exploring the back roads of Georgia and South Carolina and chronicling the area's people, food and stories.

His new book, "Georgialina: A Southland as we Knew It," tells tales of these journeys in this area, which is mainly defined by a river running through it. He writes about churning ice cream by hand, exploring dirt roads, ghost towns and an encounter with "Goat Man."

Poland and his new book were recently profiled in the Athens Banner-Herald, where he talked about his memories of working at Athens' Greyhound Bus Station, early encounters with members of the B-52s and a former professor who made an impression.
