Camp DIVE gives kids a leg up on summer
The inaugural session of Camp DIVE was featured in a front-page article in the Athens Banner-Herald. Noting that one of the main goals of the camp is to prevent "summer slide," the story recounts activities that take place on a typical day, including learning the value of bike helmets, working on a mural or understanding what goes into growing our food.
Camp DIVE differs plenty from YMCA camp, which rising Clarke Middle sixth-grader Antonio Starks attended last summer, according to the newspaper story.
"We're learning how to grow plants, about agriculture and safety, and about the history of Athens," he said. "At YMCA camp, we mostly spent our time outside, but at Camp DIVE, we mostly play games and learn inside."
