College wins big during annual gifted children conference

Students, faculty and alumni with the College's department of educational psychology celebrated a big night of awards at the recent convention for the National Association for Gifted Children.

That's because 11 people associated with the department were honored during the final evening of the event, part of the conference's Celebration of Excellence awards ceremony and reception.

Award winners included:

• Ahmed Abdulla and Sue Hyeon Paek (Doctoral Student Awards)
• Laura Ecke (AB '92, EDS '14, PHD '15, Community Service Award)
• Laura Heath Gary (ABJ '88, EDS '15, Education Specialist Award)
• Kurali Grantham (Jenkins Award)
• Kate Guthrie and Sue Hyeon Paek (graduate student poster awards)
• Matt McBee (MED '04, PHD '06, Promising Scholar Award)

Others associated with the College were recognized for their new or changing roles within the organization. These included:

• KH Kim (PHD '04), outgoing chair of the Creativity Division
• Sally Krisel (MED '82, EDD '00), incoming president of the National Association for Gifted Children
• Michael Stuart Matthews (PHD '02), the new co-editor of the Gifted Child Quarterly

The National Association for Gifted Children works to enhance the growth and development of gifted and talented children through education, advocacy, community building and research. The organization supports awards and scholarships, research and periodic position statements on policies and practices related to the education of high-ability or high-potential learners.
