Linda Purvis, a doctoral student in the College's department of mathematics and science education, recently received a Teaching Excellence Award from the University of North Georgia.

A lecturer at the school's Gainesville campus, Purvis has been teaching biology there since 2009. Her areas of expertise include poultry science and infectious diseases, and she is in the process of redesigning her undergraduate classes to reflect her research interest: undergraduate education.

Each year, the University of North Georgia's Center for Teaching, Learning, and Leadership presents three Teaching Awards: the Distinguished Teaching Award and the Teaching Excellence Award for tenure-track and non-tenure-track faculty. Purvis was one of three faculty from across the multi-campus institution to receive the award.
