Alumnus named Pac-12 Coach of the Year; wins division title

Last month, University of Colorado football coach and College of Education alumnus Mike MacIntyre (M.Ed. '91) was named Coach of the Year by the Pac-12 Conference.

MacIntyre took over the Buffaloes in 2013 after they finished the season 1-11. Despite failing to win more than four games in each of his first three seasons, MacIntyre led Colorado to a 10-2 overall record and an 8-1 conference record during his fourth season coaching the Buffs, securing the Pac-12 South Division title.

The season became the greatest overall improvement in conference history.

MacIntyre is the first CU coach to be named conference coach of the year since Gary Barnett won in 2004 in the Big 12 Conference. CU—which dropped to 11 in the NCAA college football rankings after losing to Washington, 10-41, at the Pac-12 Football Championship Game—became just the ninth Power 5 school since 1972 to win 10 or more games after finishing the previous season with four victories or fewer.

The 10-win season was the first for CU since 2001.
