An alumna and young leader in the field of counseling psychology will be working with others to advance cross-cultural mentoring and training.

Dr. Cristalis Capielo has been selected to be a Leadership Fellow to the Council of National Psychological Associations for the Advancement of Ethnic Minority Interests, representing the National Latina/o Psychological Association. This group allows Fellows to work with others from the Asian-American Psychological Association, Society of Indian Psychologists, and Divisions 17 and 45 from the American Psychological Association.

As an added bonus to the appointment, Capielo will take part in a new component of training for Fellows, a Presidential Residency, which allows Capielo to shadow the president of the National Latina/o Psychological Association (NLPA) and take part in a project. She recently served as chair of the 2016 NLPA Conference, and has also contributed to the organization's Ethics Task Force and the NLPA's Mentorship Program.

Capielo received her PhD in counseling psychology from the University of Georgia College of Education in 2016. She is an assistant professor in the counseling and counseling psychology department at Arizona State University.
