Graduate School honors 2 College alumni

Two College of Education alumni were recently honored by the UGA Graduate School for their achievements.

Mary Frances Early (M.M.Ed. '62, Ed.S. '71), the first African-American graduate of the University of Georgia, was also the first African-American president of Georgia Music Educators and was instrumental in developing state standards for music education. Flora W. Tydings (B.S.Ed. '76, M.Ed. '79, Ed.D. '03), chancellor of the Tennessee Board of Regents, has decades of experience in the classroom, as an educational administrator, and in the private sector.

The honorees were among nine who received the 2017 Alumni of Distinction Award last weekend during a reception. The annual event marks recipients' success in professional careers and service in their communities.
