Teamwork creates lesson that's made in the shade

Looking at the eclipse with class Julie Luft, Athletic Association Professor of Mathematics and Science Education, led the University of Georgia College of Education's effort to raise money to buy solar eclipse glasses for more than 14,000 Clarke County School District students (and eight schools in other counties) from Lunt Optical in Tucson, Arizona. She also organized more than 75 science- and education-based faculty, graduate and undergraduate students to volunteer in Clarke County schools on solar eclipse day and share their passion for this important scientific event.

Other units on campus, including faculty from UGA's geography department, as well as Carla Buss, curriculum librarian in the College of Education, and Ted Gilbert, associate superintendent for district services, played a large part in making the day a big success.
