Five College of Education students elected to join prestigious honor society
This year, five students in the University of Georgia College of Education were initiated into UGA's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest academic honor society. Election to membership is a distinguished academic honor.
Founded in 1776, Phi Beta Kappa is one of the country's most widely-known academic honor societies celebrating the liberal arts and sciences. With only about 10 percent of graduates in this field invited to join, the society's chapters invitation for induction is one of the most selective in the nation.
The 2017 College of Education students selected for membership are:
- Juliana Lima, world language education
- Meredith Miles, early childhood education
- Katherine O'Hara, world language education
- Amanda Piehler, science education
- Gloriana Thomas, mathematics education
In addition to recognizing students who have made outstanding intellectual achievements in the arts and sciences, Phi Beta Kappa also sponsors activities that advance studies in the social sciences, humanities and natural sciences.
