Shiyu Wang and Seohyun Kim both have received prestigious awards from the National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME).

Shiyu Wang

Wang, an assistant professor in the Mary Frances Early College of Education’s department of educational psychology, received the NCME Jason Millman Promising Measurement Scholar Award for 2020. Kim, an alumna (Ph.D. ‘19) of the department of educational psychology, received the NCME Brenda H. Loyd Outstanding Dissertation Award. NCME is the largest and most visible research organization in the field of educational measurement and statistics.

Wang’s primary research interests lie broadly in statistical methodologies with applications to educational assessment and measurement. She will accept the award on April 20 at the NCME virtual business meeting.

Seohyun Kim

“This award recognizes one early career scholar annually for the contributions the scholar’s body of research has made to the field and is a very competitive and prestigious award,” Wang said. “Receiving such an award is important to me, as it recognizes my established research work and directions and gives me confidence to further expand and promote my research.”

Kim is currently a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Virginia. Her dissertation, “Constructed response data analysis using structural equation modeling and topic modeling,” focuses on the difficult subject of statistical analysis of written responses to text prompts and of the scores given to these responses by readers.
