Professor selected to participate in UGA's research team workshop series
Kristen Bub, a professor in the Mary Frances Early College of Education’s department of educational psychology, was recently selected to participate in UGA’s Leading Large Integrative Research Team (L2-IRT) Workshop Series. Bub is one of 12 participants selected for the 2021-22 academic year cohort.
Hosted by the UGA Office of Research, L2-IRT is a workshop series designed to help faculty develop the skills needed to create and manage large, integrative research teams. Members of each cohort learn best practices in leadership, team science and organizational strategy research.
“Being accepted into this program is such an honor,” Bub said. “I am excited to learn from experts and colleagues at UGA. I know the work I will do following this program will be so much stronger. Being accepted into the program also reinforces the importance of the work we are doing to improve the mental health and well-being of our educators and students.”
Currently, Bub is completing a small-scale research project that examines the effects of Clarke County school closures due to COVID-19 on children’s social-emotional and academic outcomes. She is curating a research team that will include faculty from educational psychology, school psychology and social work along with leaders from local school districts, parents and a mindfulness expert.
“Based on the repercussions of the pandemic and the growing need for mental health supports for children and teachers, I—along with several colleagues—am developing a proposal and a multidisciplinary team to offer needed supports to local districts as they return to school,” she said.
Bub’s long-term goal is to work with districts to provide support for teachers and children and to evaluate the impact of the implemented practices.
“This workshop series will provide me with the skills and knowledge to more effectively manage such a team and would prepare me to work with interdisciplinary teams in future projects as well,” she said.
