Alumna named full-time director of Counseling and Psychological Services at Clemson University

Birma Gainor (Ph.D. ’10), alumna of the Mary Frances Early College of Education’s counseling psychology program, was recently appointed full-time director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at Clemson University’s Redfern Health Center.

Gainor has served as interim director of CAPS since March 2021 and held several roles in the organization, including:

  • Intern: 2002-2003
  • Staff counselor: 2003-2006
  • Staff psychologist: 2013-2015
  • Assistant director: 2015-2021
Before coming to UGA for her doctoral program, she earned a bachelor’s degree in English and master’s degrees in professional communication and counselor education from Clemson.
