Dr. Anastasia Fischer (M.A. ’96), alumna of the Department of Kinesiology’s exercise physiology program, was recently named president of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

ACSM represents over 50,000 professionals in exercise science, sports medicine, and health and fitness fields across 70 countries through certifications, events, and educational opportunities.

Following her master’s program at UGA, Fischer went on to earn a medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and works as a pediatric sports medicine physician at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, according to her nomination video. She joined ACSM as a graduate student in 1996, she said.

She is the second Mary Frances Early College of Education alumna to hold the position, the first being Melinda Millard Stafford (Ph.D. ’86).
