This collaboration between the Clarke County School District and the University of Georgia College of Education brings a professor-in-residence to several local schools where they help with professional development, volunteer efforts and student teachers.

CLASE FIESTA Program (Future Innovators Elementary Summer Thinking Academy)

Georgia Children's Book Award

Established by the Department of Language and Literacy Education in 1968, the Georgia Children's Book Award committees are committed to rewarding, recognizing, and promoting excellence in children's literature. Their primary objectives are to foster a love of reading, and to introduce children to books of literary excellence. The annual conference not only honors the Georgia Children's Book Award winners, but also includes author and illustrator workshops and practitioner-based sessions.

Georgia ESOL for Content Area Teacher

GECAT is a five-year, Title III federally funded initiative begun in summer 2012. We provide ESOL endorsement courses to teachers in our partner districts. Classes are FREE to teachers — tuition and books are provided by the GECAT program, and participants receive a small stipend for each course. Courses are offered on-site at partner schools. Teachers will earn UGA graduate credit.

Project REFOCUS

REFOCUS is a science outreach program that places retired STEM professionals in classrooms in Athens-Clarke County and other surrounding counties to encourage hands-on, applicable science education.
