Physical Activity Measurement Lab

The Physical Activity Measurement Laboratory specializes in the measurement of physical activity among diverse populations. We also can also provide help in selecting appropriate self-report measures of physical activity.

  • A range of portable activity monitors including accelerometers, pedometers, and body position sensors
  • Heart-rate monitors
  • Portable indirect calorimeters
  • Other measures of physiologic workload

Research

  • Measurement of compensatory changes of non-exercise physical activity in response to initiating a structured exercise program
  • Estimation of energy expenditure and sedentary behaviors in weight management studies
  • Assessment of sleep quality and patterns
