Sport Instruction Research Lab

The lab offers hands-on research and skills-building for future teachers and coaches in sports, (adaptive) physical education, (adaptive) physical activity, and Special Olympics. Students take on research related to education and methods of teaching sport, while graduate students get hands-on training for future advanced study in sport and adaptive sport teaching methods.

Fit Dawgs® Day Camps

The Mary Frances Early College of Education is excited to offer two summer day camps in June:

  • Fit Dawgs®, a healthy lifestyle camp for 11 to 16-year-olds
  • Fit Dawgs® VIP, a healthy lifestyle camp for youth with visual impairments and blindness for 9 to 17-year olds

Research

SIRL initiated research efforts focus on the following topics:

  1. Motivational processes impacting sustainable and healthy physical activity, exercise, and sport behaviors.
  2. Prevention and treatment of pediatric obesity
  3. Coaching behaviors and athletes’ well-being
  4. Physical Education Experiences of Individuals with Cerebral Palsy
  5. Barriers and Facilitators of Exercise among College Students with Sensory and Physical Impairments

Ann E. Jewett Library

The Ann E. Jewett Library was established in 2006 to honor Dr. Jewett, a pioneer in the development of Physical Education Curriculum and former Professor and Chair of the Division of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance at the University of Georgia. The purpose of library is to serve as a partial repository of her papers and other works. Office space is provided for visiting faculty from around the world.
