Sport Instruction Research Lab
Introduction
The lab offers hands-on research and skills-building for future teachers and coaches in sports, (adapted) physical education, (adaptive) physical activity, and Special Olympics. Students take on research related to education and methods of teaching sport, while graduate students get hands-on training for future advanced study in sport and adaptive sport teaching methods.Fit Dawgs® Day Camps
The Mary Frances Early College of Education is excited to offer two summer day camps in June:
- Fit Dawgs®, a healthy lifestyle camp for 11 to 16-year-olds
- UGA Blind Sport Youth Camp, a sleep-away camp for blind and visually impaired athletes ages 12-18. This camp features instruction in goalball and other sports such as blind soccer, blind golf, aquatics, and beep baseball

Research
SIRL initiated research efforts focus on the following topics:
- Motivational processes impacting sustainable and healthy physical activity, exercise, and sport behaviors.
- Prevention and treatment of pediatric obesity
- Coaching behaviors and athletes’ well-being
- Lived experiences, benefits, and barriers within disability and Parasport settings
- Lived experiences of disabled persons in physical activity settings across the lifespan
