I am currently pursing two distinct lines of research related to autism spectrum disorders (ASD). First, my research examines the development of social attention in children with ASD. I use a range of methods, including eye-tracking and behavioral coding, to quantify social attentional constructs commonly impaired among children with ASD (e.g., joint attention and social orienting).
My second area of research focuses on disseminating best practice ASD assessment and treatment approaches to countries and minority groups with insufficient access to ASD services. More specifically, I have been conducting research in Tanzania to examine the effectiveness of parent-mediated behavioral interventions and observation-based approaches for diagnosing ASD to help decrease ASD-specific disparities in low-income countries. I am also focused on cross-cultural comparisons of mental health literacy and stigmas.
