Fund Purpose

This fund provides scholarships to worthy students in the Department of Counseling and Human Development Services.

About the Donor

This fund was established by the estate of Barbara Jane Rankin to support worthy students. Barbara graduated from the College of Education in 1955 with a B.S.Ed. in Recreation. She dedicated her career to recreation, outdoor education, and youth development.

For the first few years of her career she worked for the Georgia State Parks Department, where she helped small towns organize recreation programs for their communities.

In 1961, Barbara became the owner and director of Camp Chimney Rock for Boys and Girls in Chimney Rock, North Carolina. Founded in 1918, Camp Chimney Rock provided generations of young people with opportunities to learn and grow through outdoor education and the camping experience. Barbara devoted decades to the camp, overseeing its programs and operations and continuing its tradition of serving young people.
