The Chip Clendon Memorial Scholarship
Introduction
The endowment that supports the Chip Clendon Memorial Scholarship was started by Ruth L. Langevin in 2015 in memory of George William “Chip” Clendon.At a Glance
Eligibility: First preference shall be given to undergraduate students majoring in special education with financial need, as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid at the University of Georgia.
- The recipient(s) will be selected by a committee appointed by the dean of the Mary Frances Early College of Education.
- Applicants must have a current cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.

Fund Purpose
The intent of the Chip Clendon Memorial Scholarship is to provide scholarship support for students in the Department of Communication Sciences and Special Education.About the Donor
This fund was established in 2015 by Ruth L. Langevin in memory of her son, George William “Chip” Clendon. George was employed at Oglethorpe Dining Commons on the University of Georgia campus, or as Chip would proudly say “Where the big dogs eat!” Chip passed away in September 2015.
Nearly everyone who had the privilege of knowing Chip became a friend for life. They were drawn to his playful spirit, unforgettable laugh, disarming honesty, and wonderful sense of humor. They admired his courage and determination, especially the hard work he put into achieving his independence. Above all, they were touched by his thoughtfulness and his gentle nature, always mindful of others and never wanting to be a burden.
Chip was a good and gentle soul and a special blessing to his mother from the day he was born. His kindness, sweetness, and loving spirit were an example to everyone who knew him.
