Rice Graduate Student Support in Social Science Education

Fund Purpose

The purpose of this fund is to provide graduate support to one or more social studies education graduate students per academic year who are in the data collection phase of their doctoral dissertation research. Award candidates will demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Outstanding undergraduate/graduate grade point average of 3.5 or higher
  • A career path in the field of social studies education in K-12 or higher education
  • A demonstrated potential for excellence in two of the following: teaching, research, or public service in the field of social studies education

First preference will be given to students whose doctoral thesis focuses on anthropology and/or cultural geographic perspectives in the curriculum. The department will form a search committee that will perform a thorough review of all candidate qualifications, experience, and reputation.
